What's in a Tube?

A simple and versatile shape, a composite tube can be deceptive. Look a little closer and you will start to unravel the secrets inside this tube's structure.

 What's in a tube?

Made from carbon, aramid and/or glass fibres, CompoTech's tubes are highly engineered and are produced using the company's unique zero degree axial fibre laying process. Although often compared to filament winding, CompoTech's process differs by offering increased performance through higher mechanical properties, in particular higher bending stiffness and strength. This is achieved as a result of a thorough understanding of composite processes, and ongoing research, analysis and design.

CompoTech has been working on the engineering of an unstayed carbon fibre structure for the Seascape 18 wing mast, known as Wingscape. The Wingscape was developed by Seascape, Ori Wingsail and One Sails based on the patented Omerwing, a soft wing with camber control and reefing capabilty giving up to 20% increased performance.

CompoTech’s Graphite fibre composites technology allows a 3.2m cutting width of the Esko’s Kongsberg C cutting table. The composite traverse beam is long enough to allow todays large format printing size without compromising on performance.

CompoTech has been working with Czech Formula motor racing to produce a monocoque chasis for the race car. The resulting shell, made from a single AFL process, has much higher torsional stiffness than previous shell, laminated and assembled from various pieces.
